Trump: FBI Had 'Bad Day' in Not Stopping Orlando Shooter

By    |   Sunday, 19 June 2016 10:03 AM EDT

Donald Trump says the FBI had a "bad day" when agents decided Orlando, Fla., mass shooter Omar Mateen wasn't a threat after multiple interviews prior to the massacre at a gay nightclub that killed 49 people.

In an interview on ABC's "This Week," the GOP presumptive nominee called the FBI response to the gunman prior to the horrific attack was "unusual."

The FBI has said Mateen was interviewed three separate times about possible ties to terrorism, but that it was determined he wasn't a threat.

"I think it's very unusual, and I'm a fan of the FBI, but they had a little bit of a bad day," Trump tells "This Week."

The FBI has defended its prior investigations of Mateen, saying the agency only is able to continue probes under certain circumstances, such as when the threat to lives is considered significant.
