Poll: 55% Back Trump's Travel Ban and Cuts to Sanctuary Cities

Fifty-five percent of Americans surveyed said they supported President Donald Trump's temporary travel ban and his executive order to cut federal funding from sanctuary cities, according to new poll results released Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 38 percent and 33 percent, respectively, opposed the directives.

In addition, 48 percent of those backed Trump's order to build a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico — 42 percent did not — and respondents were split on the president's performance after two weeks in the White House.

Here are the results of the 2,070 registered voters surveyed by Morning Consult and Politico last Friday and Saturday:

Do you approve of President Trump's temporary travel ban executive order?

  • Approve: 55 percent.
  • Disapprove: 38 percent.

Do you approve of Trump's order cutting federal funds to sanctuary cities?

  • Approve: 55 percent.
  • Disapprove: 33 percent.

Do you approve of the order to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border?

  • Approve: 48 percent.
  • Disapprove: 42 percent.

"Compared to a number of other high-profile executive orders Trump has signed since taking office on Jan. 20, the travel ban is generally popular with voters, ranking behind his order to revoke funding for so-called 'sanctuary cities' and another to freeze all federal regulations until his administration can review them," Morning Consult said in its analysis of the survey results.

Here is the breakdown on Trump's other executive actions:

Freezing federal regulations pending government review?

  • Approve: 54 percent.
  • Disapprove: 33 percent.

Delaying or ignoring elements of Obamacare?

  • Approve: 49 percent.
  • Disapprove: 41 percent.

Seeking fast-track approval for the Keystone XL Pipeline?

  • Approve: 48 percent.
  • Disapprove: 37 percent.

Freezing all federal hiring of new employees?

  • Approve: 48 percent.
  • Disapprove: 39 percent.

Withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership?

  • Approve: 47 percent.
  • Disapprove: 33 percent.

Cutting federal regulations?

  • Approve: 47 percent.
  • Disapprove: 33 percent.

Ending federal aid to global groups that provide abortions?

  • Approve: 47 percent.
  • Disapprove: 42 percent.

Granting fast-track approval for the Dakota Access Pipeline?

  • Approve: 46 percent.
  • Disapprove: 39 percent.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing as president?

  • Approve: 47 percent.
  • Disapprove: 46 percent.

The survey has a margin of error of 2 percent.
