Dr. Anthony Fauci told reporters Tuesday that President Donald Trump's Easter goal of easing restrictions on the public imposed over the coronavirus pandemic are "flexible."

Trump said earlier during a Fox News town hall that he hoped to see the country beginning to get moving again by Easter, which is April 12.

"You can look at a date but you’ve got to be very flexible and on a literally day-by-day and week-by-week basis. You need to evaluate the feasibility of what you’re trying to do," Fauci said during the daily White House briefing.

Fauci, a member of the president's Coravirus Task Force, said guidelines might be eased in regions with fewer cases earlier than areas with more cases. But he said there isn't yet enough data to make such determinations.

"You may not want to essentially treat it as just one force for the entire country, but look at flexibility in different areas," he said. "So I think people might get the misinterpretation you’re just going to lift everything up. … That’s not going to happen. It’s going to be looking at the data. And what we don’t have right now that we really do need, is we need to know what’s going on in those areas of the country where there isn’t an obvious outbreak."
