The FBI is looking into the possibility hackers have broken into the cell phones of a small number of Democratic National Committee staffers, CNN reported.
Law enforcement is talking to staffers on an individual basis in an effort to begin "imaging" their phones – copying what is on the phone to another device – in order to see if malware or other evidence of hacking is on their phones.
A previous hacking of DNC emails brought about a release of documents just ahead of this summer's Democratic Convention that revealed staffers had actively worked against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in his run against eventual nominee Hillary Clinton. It led to the resignation of DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Democrats have blamed the Russian government for the hack, though WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has disputed that.
