An 11-year-old boy from Miami-Dade County is the youngest person in Florida to die from COVID-19 complications, CNN reports.

The Florida Department of Health told CNN the boy had severe underlying health conditions.

Health records show the case was not travel-related. It is unclear if he got the virus from someone else who was infected.

Two other Florida minors have died from complications related to COVID-19, according to state health records. One was a 16-year-old girl, the other a 17-year-old boy.

The boy’s death was reported as cases soar in Florida. On Thursday, the state logged another record for new cases: 10,109.

A CNN analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University shows the state is now averaging more new reported coronavirus cases per day than any other state.

As of last Friday, 7,000 minors in Florida had tested positive for the virus, according to CNN.

The state has reported more than 169,000 cases and 3,600 deaths, according to records.

Over the past several weeks the average age of people infected with the virus has dropped down from 65 to 37, according to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Florida health records show that patients between the ages of 25-34 make up 20% of the state's cases. People between the ages of 15-24 make up 16% of the cases. Minors between the ages of 5-14 account for just 3% of Florida’s cases.
