Most Americans in the country, for the first time since the pandemic began, say that the coronavirus situation in the United States is improving in a Gallup poll released on Friday.
Gallup found that more than half think the situation is improving, while about 1 in 4 think it’s staying the same, and about 14% think it’s getting worse.
- 60% said situation is improving, either a lot or a little.
- 26% said situation is staying the same.
- 14% said situation is getting worse.
In Gallup’s first poll about the coronavirus situation, which was taken last April, just over half said that the situation was getting worse, with less than a third saying it was improving.
- 56% said last April that the situation was getting worse.
- 29% at the time said the situation was improving.
- 15% at the time said the situation was remaining the same.
Gallup concludes that “In contrast to their perceptions of personal disruption, Americans' assessment of how the situation is progressing is largely related to the fluctuating number of new cases. … However, in recent days, that number has stopped declining. This, coupled with potential difficulties with the vaccination program or the rapid spread of new variants of the disease, could result in optimism fading rapidly.”
The poll was conducted between Feb. 14 through Feb. 21, with at least 1,000 adults in the U.S. No margin of error was given.
