President Donald Trump is linking the rise in coronavirus cases in the U.S. directly to increased testing.

Trump made his comments in a Thursday night tweet. He wrote: “There is a rise in Coronavirus cases because our testing is so massive and so good, far bigger and better than any other country. This is great news, but even better news is that death, and the death rate, is DOWN. Also, younger people, who get better much easier and faster!”

Earlier on Thursday, Adm. Brett Giroir, assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, told Congress the coronavirus surge is not simply a result of more testing, according to Axios.

"There is no question that the more testing you get, the more you will uncover, but we do believe this is a real increase in cases because of the percent positives are going up,” Giroir said. “So this is real increases in cases.

"We really do believe the current outbreak is primarily due to under 35s with a lot of gatherings, not [using] appropriate protection like masks.”
