Attendees of a July 3 celebration at Mount Rushmore with President Donald Trump will not have to wear masks or social distance, says South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
During a Monday night appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” the Republican governor said people who attend the Independence Day celebration can wear a mask if they want to, but masks will not be mandated.
"We will have a large event at July 3rd. We told those folks that have concerns that they can stay home, but those who want to come and join us, we'll be giving out free face masks, if they choose to wear one. But we will not be social distancing," the Republican governor said.
Noem said people have “the opportunity to make a decision that they're comfortable with."
Trump is expected to speak at the event. A website with event information states “attendance will be limited” via a lottery for tickets to about “7,500 participants.”
Mount Rushmore is in a national park. The National Park Service recommends people practice social distancing when visiting its parks.
