A Chicago Uber driver who was licensed to carry a concealed weapon shot and wounded a gunman who had opened fire on innocent passersby in Logan Square on the city's northwest side just before midnight on Friday,
The Chicago Tribune reported.
Everardo Custodio, 22, began shooting at people for no apparent reason just as the driver was passing. Described as a 47-year-old resident of the city's Little Italy neighborhood, the Uber driver shot and wounded Custodio, hitting him several times. No one else was hurt.
Assistant State's Attorney Barry Quinn said the driver had a concealed-carry permit and had acted in the defense of himself and others.
Custodio, charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon, was treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds to the shin, thigh and lower back, authorities said.
The driver had been in the area to drop off a customer from his Uber taxi as Custodio began firing, the Tribune reported.
