High Court Ruling on Obamacare May Come Soon

By    |   Friday, 15 April 2011 11:50 PM EDT

The Supreme Court may decide any day now whether to speed up the various challenges to the new healthcare law. But most legal experts anticipate the court will stay out of it for now, The Hill reports.

Two federal judges have ruled against Obamacare, declaring that its mandate on individuals to buy health insurance is unconstitutional. Several other judges have upheld the law. The Obama administration wants appeals courts to hear the cases first, which would slow the whole process down. Obamacare critics say the issue should be settled as quickly as possible.

"Given the importance of the issues at stake to the states and to the economy as a whole, this Court should grant certiorari to resolve a matter of imperative public importance," Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli argued in his Feb. 8 petition to the Supreme Court for expedition.
