Hillary Clinton has apparently known Santa for a long time, but not the big man in the red suit.
In emails released by the State Department this week, Hillary Clinton made several mentions of meeting with someone named Santa. According to
the New York Daily News, Santa is actually Clinton's hairdresser in Chappaqua, N.Y.
Santa Nikkels owns Santa's Hair Salon in the Clintons' hometown, and Clinton is one of her clients. The Daily News tracked her down but she refused to talk about Clinton — despite there being photos of her famous customer on the wall of the salon.
"I know it's nothing bad but I really can't talk about my customers," Nikkels said. "I just can't say anything."
In State Department emails,
Clinton mentioned Santa in messages to her aide Huma Abedin.
"I'm seeing Santa at 8:30 so won't take off until closer to 9:30," Clinton wrote to Abedin. "Is that ok?"
In another message, sent two months later, Clinton made another Santa reference.
"The timing, however, is hard for a visit since I need to see Santa around 7:45 after seeing Lisa," Clinton wrote.
CNN also talked to Nikkels, but she would not discuss the former Secretary of State.
"I want to keep myself in a very conservative position and I don't give information about clients," Nikkels said. "I don't like to talk about who comes in here and who doesn't."
Clinton has been dogged by an email scandal this year stemming from her time at the State Department from 2009-2013. Clinton used a private email address and a private, home-based server instead of a government address.
Clinton's team deleted roughly 32,000 emails they deemed personal, and kept 30,000 they said were work-related. Those 30,000 were given to the State Department, which has begun to make them public.
