MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said he's left the Republican Party and is now an independent.
The announcement by the co-host of "Morning Joe" came in a Thursday tweet:
The comment about "Nambia" is a swipe at President Donald Trump, who had referred to the nonexistent country while speaking to African leaders at the United Nations in September, The Hill noted.
It is also seen as a jab at the president over Trump's past demands for former President Barack Obama's birth certificate to determine whether he was actually born in the United States, according to the Hill.
Scarborough later identified the man in the Twitter photo with him as New Canaan, Connecticut Registrar of Voters John Amarilios.
Scarborough, a former congressman from Florida, has been locked in a bitter feud with Trump. He had claimed in a column for The Washington Post back in July, that Trump was killing the Republican Party.
