After his initial protest of violating our "right to peaceful assembly," actor/musician John Schneider told Newsmax TV he has postponed Bo's Extravaganza music festival on the advice of President Donald Trump.
"The last thing I want to do is appear to be opposed to anything the single greatest president of my lifetime is doing," Schneider, the famed golden-haired Bo Duke of "Dukes of Hazzard," told Wednesday's "The Chris Salcedo Show."
"Not because of our governor here, not because of the law, but, honestly, if Donald Trump says this needs to be put on hold, that's good enough for me."
Schneider had considered defying health recommendations against large gatherings because Americans need a diversion from the negative news amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"We've got this, but we cannot fight this, we cannot win this, sequestered," Schneider, who hosts his festival in Holden, Louisiana every April, said. "We need to stay to together. We need to remember that community is the most important thing we have.
"Don't let this be a divisive element in your psyche," he added. "Let this be something that makes you realize the importance of community even more."
Schneider was not intending to defy Trump in vowing to host his show, but he wanted to show strength in the face of danger. Instead, Schneider said he will be putting out content on JohnSchneiderStudios.com, "so people can kind of forget about what's going on for maybe 15, 20 minutes."
"We need to stop being so scared," he said. "We are not a fearful country. We are not people born into fear."
As for others profiteering off the crisis, Schneider rejected movie companies and others trying to make a buck online.
"Right now should not be an opportunity for opportunists to take advantage of people who are staying at home," he said. "Now should be a time for people who really are humanitarian people to say, 'you know what, here's a new song; here's a new movie; here's a joke; here's a free concert. Enjoy yourselves and take your minds out of what's going on in the news, in the world today.'"
