Former Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren will have a new Navy ship named after him, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced Thursday.

The USNS Earl Warren, due to begin construction in 2019, will be the latest in the John Lewis-class of replacement oilers, under the Military Sealift Command, named in honor of civil right's heroes.

Warren is credited with ending school segregation via the Brown v Board of Education ruling in 1954.

Harvey Milk and Robert Kennedy are two other prior recipients of ships in that class named in their honor.

Mabus named two other ships as well Thursday.

The USS Columbia — named after the District of Columbia — will be the first ship in a new fleet of ballistic missile submarines, and the USNS Puerto Rico, a future Expeditionary Fast Transport all-aluminum catamaran.
