A petition urging the Obama administration to deport troubled teen pop star Justin Bieber back to Canada is gathering steam.
The protest note, created on the official White House petition website, has been signed by nearly 7,000 people in the past 24 hours and
its intended goal is 100,000 signatures by Feb. 22.
Under the headline "Deport Justin Bieber and Revoke his Green Card," the petition says, "We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked.
"He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation's youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."
The 19-year-old Canadian singer was arrested early Thursday morning in Miami for allegedly drag-racing a rented yellow Lamborghini and for driving under the influence. He was also charged with resisting arrest and driving on an expired Georgia license.
Police said that Bieber, who reportedly failed a field sobriety test, had repeatedly cursed at officers and told them he had consumed alcohol, pot and prescription drugs.
Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez said that officers
observed Bieber's Lamborghini race another driver in a red Ferrari at high speeds from a standing position in a residential neighborhood near the popular South Beach tourist area.
The wealthy "Boyfriend" singer, who had earlier been
spotted at a nightclub on nearby Lincoln Road, had allegedly used two SUVs to block the road for the drag race, during which he was clocked doing 55-60 mph in a 30 mph zone. His singer friend Khalil, 19, was also arrested for DUI.
According to
Fox News, earlier in the week Bieber had splashed out $75,000 in $1 bills at a strip club. And CBS Miami reported that the singer had received an unauthorized escort from two marked cop cars for a night out on Monday.
The arrest was the latest in a string of incidents that have given the pop star an image as an out-of control teenage superstar in recent months.
Earlier this month, he was accused of trespassing on his neighbor's property in Calabasas, Calif., and throwing eggs at the home. After the neighbor called cops, they raided Bieber's home where they allegedly found drugs, and one of his friends was arrested.
Neighbors in his gated community had previously complained to police about Bieber
speeding dangerously through the quiet residential streets.
Last year he was photographed smoking what appeared to be a joint, and while he was on tour in Brazil he was accused of spraying graffiti in Brazil.
The
Daily Mail reported Friday that a private jet had been on standby for hours in Miami to fly Bieber back to California, where he faced a heart-to-heart conversation with his advisers, including manager Scooter Braun, about his wild ways.
But instead the "Baby" singer, who was born in London, Ontario, had chosen to stay in Florida to continue partying with his father Jeremy, 39, after the star had been bailed.
"He's being defiant and not listening," a source told the Daily Mail. "His team is insisting he go to rehab and he's not doing it. He just keeps partying."
