A campaign to bully Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer into vetoing a bill to allow businesses to refuse service to homosexuals due to religious convictions is underway, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh says.
He blamed the media and the "political and cultural establishment" for the campaign to persuade Brewer.
"As Allah knows, religious beliefs can't be used to stop anything the left wants to impose, unless they're Muslim religious beliefs, then we have to honor those. But any other religious beliefs, not permitted, the left will not allow them," Limbaugh said on his show Tuesday,
according to a transcript posted on his website.
Brewer is expected to make a decision on the bill on Wednesday. Most observers believe
she will wield her veto pen as both the state's senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake and the Chamber of Commerce is urging.
Even if Brewer does not use her veto, the bill is still likely doomed, Limbaugh says.
"We all know what's gonna happen here. Let's say she does veto it. What's gonna happen? The nearest liberal judge will declare the law to be unconstitutional. If there's one thing that we've learned by now, ladies and gentlemen, the left does not accept laws it doesn't like. They just don't."
Earlier this month, Limbaugh said heterosexuals were "
under assault" by the small percentage of homosexuals in the nation.
"You say, 'Heterosexuality may be 95, 98 percent of the population…. They're under assault by the 2 to 5 percent that are homosexual."
Limbaugh said Tuesday that gay activists were demanding Brewer veto the bill… and support their viewpoint while doing so.
"The homosexual advocates want her to veto it on the basis of human rights, civil rights, gay rights, and what have you. So even vetoing the bill won't be good enough. She has to veto the bill for the right moral reasons. And isn't it interesting that all of a sudden now the left is interested in morality, at least as they define it," he said.
Limbaugh stated that a leftist "bullying business" was behind the pressure campaign on the governor.
"But you notice here, folks, how bullying is a good thing? The governor of Arizona is being bullied. She is being bullied by the homosexual lobby in Arizona and elsewhere. She is being bullied by the nationwide Drive-By Media. She is being bullied by certain elements of corporate America in order to advance the gay agenda. I guess in that circumstance, bullying is admirable. In fact, this kind of bullying is honorable."
Limbaugh noted another prominent case from a few years ago in which religious convictions were cited by business people refusing service, and wondered where the liberal outrage was at that time.
“Do you remember — got it right here: AP, April 16th, 2007: 'Some Muslim Cabbies in Minneapolis Refusing Service to Passengers With Alcohol, Dogs.'
"Do you remember? Yeah. And did anybody make the cabdrivers change? No, they didn't. So this is my point. A Muslim cabdriver is totally within his rights if he doesn't want to drive somebody who smells of adult beverage or has a dog."
But as for Brewer in Arizona, Limbaugh said whether she vetoes the bill or not, "they’re still gonna bury her."
