Maine has refused a second request by the Trump administration's election fraud commission to hand over the personal information of Pine Tree State voters, saying their privacy comes first.
"There are some real questions here about whether or not this data can be secured, and it may not provide us with anything of value anyway," Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap said, according to the Bangor Daily News and Maine Public.
He added that Maine wants to ensure the private information of Maine residents is secure.
Kansas Secretary of State Chris Kobach is leading the president's commission, which some believe is a scam by Republicans to promote voter suppression.
"This is not about me versus my own commission, or me versus the president or me versus Secretary Kobach. It's really about me following the law," Dunlap said.
Dunlap is one of four Democrats serving on the president's commission.
