Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford says he and his fiancee are calling off their engagement due to the ongoing contention with his ex-wife Jenny Sanford, four years after their divorce.
The former governor announced the break-up Friday on his Facebook page, writing that "no relationship can stand forever this tension."
He writes that he'll be forever grateful for Maria Belen Chapur, and that it's possible "there will be another chapter when waters calm with Jenny."
His rambling message on Facebook comes after attorneys for Jenny Sanford asked a family court judge to limit the South Carolina Republican's visitation with his youngest child. They also asked that Mark Sanford undergo psychological tests and take anger management and parenting courses.
Sanford calls the accusations and requests preposterous, crazy and wrong.
