White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany Monday slammed Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser Monday for the "befuddling actions" she took as protests turned more violent in the nation's capital over the weekend.
"(She) didn't issue a curfew until 11 p.m." McEnany said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "At 10 p.m. you had St. John. I think when you look at some of the befuddling actions like right here in the mayor of D.C. Didn't issue a curfew until 11 p.m. Well, guess what? At 10 p.m. you had St. John's Church burning. Several other cities had curfew at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m."
In Washington, the damages were heavy, including defacing at the Lincoln Memorial, "a beautiful symbol of a president who overcame some of deepest racial divides in our country," said McEnany. At the Veterans Affairs Department, vandals spray painted the word "veterans" from the building, she also added.
"We're targeting Antifa and it's very important," said McEnany. "The president will also put the onus on Democrat mayors to be as tough as he has been.
Attorney General Bill Barr said the Department of Justice is its network of 56 regional FBI joint terrorism task force to root out these criminal organizers and instigators.
"Basically, it will give us broad investigating power to investigate these activities and to ensure that the individuals who are looting and the individuals who are Antifa and who are behind the violent actions we're seeing and the burning down of some of America's buildings," said McEnany.
Meanwhile, the president is pushing to reopen the country, and it's "inexcusable" what we've been seeing play out across this country," said McEnany.
President Donald Trump was taken to the White House bunker at one point during the weekend's protests and several Secret Service agents were injured but McEnany said personnel in the White House feel "very protected" as the Secret Service has been doing "remakable work, but they want America to be safe.
