Report: Obama to Be New Host's First 'Meet the Press' Guest

By    |   Thursday, 04 September 2014 10:18 PM EDT

President Barack Obama will appear Sunday on "Meet the Press," the show's first episode hosted by Chuck Todd, Politico reports.

The interview will be recorded Saturday at the White House, Politico reports, citing an unnamed source.

The move indicated that the news and talk show "plans to fight aggressively to reassume its place as a dominant force in American politics," wrote Politico's Dylan Byers.

"Meet the Press" had spent 15 years in the lead of Sunday morning news shows under moderator Tim Russert, but dropped significantly after Russert's death in 2008, when he was replaced by David Gregory.

After months of media speculation, Gregory was let go by NBC in August.
