MSNBC Host: 'Star Wars' Is Racist, Darth Vader a 'Black Guy'

With the opening night of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" just days away, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry called the movie "racist" on Saturday because Darth Vader looks like a black guy, Mediaite reports.

"I know why I have feelings — good, bad and otherwise — about Star Wars," Harris-Perry said. "… I spent the whole day talking about the Darth Vader situation."

"The part where he was totally a black guy, whose name was basically James Earl Jones," she said. "While he was black he was terrible and bad, awful and used to cut off white men's hand, and didn't actually claim his son. But as soon as he claims his son, goes over to the good, takes off his mask and he is white — yes, I have many feelings about that."

Many have challenged her recent statements by noting that the TV personality failed to mention that the villain Darth Vader was revealed as the father of two Caucasian characters — Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

"It would have been a little jarring if he was a Korean dude or something," Mediaite "Star Wars" experts noted.

And, in terms of the voice of James Earl Jones as proof that Vader was portrayed as black when he was evil, Fox News stated that the actor was uncredited in the first two films.
