Liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has offered his Traverse City, Michigan apartment as home to a Syrian refugee couple in defiance of Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's ban of refugees in his state.

Moore says on his website MichaelMoore.com that he sent a letter to Snyder on Friday making the offer and accusing the governor of being "anti-American" and "un-Christian."

"Your action is not only disgraceful, it is, as you know, unconstitutional (only the President has the legal right to decide things like this)," Moore wrote.

Moore said he wants a Syrian refugee couple to use his Michigan apartment rent-free for six months to a year while they get settled into the country and find jobs.

Snyder is one of 25 governors, including one Democrat, who have banned Syrian refugees from settling in their states over fears the vetting process cannot keep out Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists. One of the November 13 Paris attackers entered Europe as a Syrian refugee.

Moore is asking others to join his effort and has set up a registry for people to offer their homes, garage apartments or spare rooms for refugees. As of Monday night, 1,523 people had taken him up on it.
