Miley Cyrus Parodies Shutdown — Doesn't Twerk — on Saturday Night Live

By    |   Sunday, 06 October 2013 05:26 PM EDT

Miley Cyrus didn't twerk on Saturday Night Live, but she did tweak the government shutdown, Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The pop star, who shocked many with her dance moves during MTV's Video Music Awards, referenced the controversy in a skit with "SNL" cast member Kenan Thompson playing a wise old-timer in the year 2045, recounting her performance and saying it was what ruined the United States, reports CNN.

And after "Old Miley," played by impressionist Vanessa Bayer, warned her not to do the VMA routine on the show, Cyrus went on to perform in most of the night's sketches, along with performing pared-down versions of two of her hits "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball."

But even though Cyrus — after declaring her Disney character "Hannah Montana" as dead — toned down her act some from the VMAs, she still turned on the raunchy moves when she played an over-sexed Bachmann and joined SNL cast member Taran Killem as a tights-wearing House Speaker John Boehner in a parody of her "We Can't Stop" music video called "We Did Stop (The Government.")

Some of the lyrics included: "to my government workers on the furlough, even though you're already paid low: Remember only God can judge us, forget the haters, because somebody elected us."

The Huffington Post's Mike Ryan, while giving the show low marks, did compliment Cyrus on Twitter, saying "Hey, look at that. Miley Cyrus didn't just play an exaggerated version of herself and she was really good."

In another sketch, she was featured as Hillary Clinton in an MTV miniseries. She also played sullen morning show anchor and actress Scarlett Johansson doing a screen test for "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Bachmann, Boehner, nor Clinton made public comment about their unflattering portrayals.
