Lights, camera and action may be coming back soon, Hollywood hopes, as motion picture studios already are gearing up for the day when movie-making will be back in full swing.

Very few films are in production right now, but studios are making plans, aiming at a new way of shooting movies, which will involve social distancing and personal protective equipment, or PPE, on sets.

“Social distancing will certainly be a requirement on all productions. We are working on plans to organize shooting crews into groups with access to certain parts of the set and significantly reduce those required around the cast and cameras,” a studio insider told Breitbart News.

Studios are working with vendors to obtain sufficient supplies of masks, gloves and other PPE, and planning to move away from location shooting to shooting on sets, where better control over who is on sets can be established.

In Georgia, where much of Hollywood shooting goes on because of the state’s financial incentives, five feature films and 29 series were in production when that came to a halt in March.

Georgia Department of Economic Development spokeswoman Marie Hodge Gordon told Breitbart, “We are in constant talks with studios and production companies as they determine the best methods to ensure the safety of all cast and crew in the state.”

Sophia Takal, director and co-writer of “Black Christmas,” told the Los Angeles Times, “I’d feel safe on a larger set if everyone could get rapid tested every day and wore masks and there was hand sanitizer everywhere and nobody ever sneezed, coughed or breathed very heavily in public, which is obviously not realistic.”

Netflix already has resumed production on some shoots in Iceland and South Korea, Breitbart noted. An industry-wide committee is having discussions about how to get movie production started up again.

However, no one is sure when production can begin once more, and SAG-AFTRA Executive Director David White told Breitbart that it may not happen until widespread testing and a vaccine are available.

Alan Heim, president of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, told the Los Angeles Times, “None of us know, there’s a lot of surmising out there, tremendous amounts of guesswork and we don’t know what’s going to happen. We all are very worried about going back to work too soon and unprotected.”
