New Jersey Lifts Its Stay-at-Home Order, Raises Gathering Limits

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy lifted the state’s stay-at-home order, while urging residents to wear masks and maintain social distance.

Murphy also is raising the limit on gatherings. Indoors, gatherings must be at 25% of a building’s capacity or 50 people, whichever is lower. Outside, crowds of as many as 100 will be allowed.

“Please continue to be responsible and safe,” Murphy tweeted. “Wear face coverings and keep a social distance from others when out in public.”

The governor also said he anticipated raising the limit on non-protest and non-religious activities to 250 people on June 22 and 500 people on July 3.

He said the the numbers of hospitalizations, patients in ICUs, and patients on ventilators, continue to move down.

“We can take these steps today because of the data and the prevailing science. The data tells us that the time can be now,” Murphy said. “The science tells us that outdoor activities are far safer than indoor activities.”

The state’s death toll from Covid-19 rose by 91 to 12,303 while the number of cases rose by 375 to 164,796.
