Loesch Tweets Why the NRA Didn't Defend Philando Castile

By    |   Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:17 PM EDT

Conservative voice Dana Loesch, who identifies herself as an NRA spokesperson on her Twitter page, tweeted out a possible explanation early Thursday as to why the gun lobby did not come to the defense of a black legal gun owner who was killed by police in Minnesota last year.

Philando Castile was shot and killed inside his car in 2016 despite telling police he was a licensed gun owner and had a weapon on him.

But he was also breaking the law, Loesch tweeted.

The NRA has rebuffed repeated inquiries to give a position as to why it never came to the defense of Castile, instead remaining mum all this time.

Loesch later in the day criticized the conservative Washington Examiner, the first media outlet to report on her tweet, for not reaching out to her for an official comment.

Loesch maintained her tweet was her own opinion and not representative of the NRA's official position on the Castile shooting tweeting at one point:

"Not every breath is official."

Loesch was then asked over Twitter by the Examiner if she'd like to make an official comment, replying only that the Examiner should have done that before publishing the story.

The officer who killed Castile was acquitted.
