Big news for bacon, egg and cheese-lovers living in fear of such foods over high cholesterol concerns.
The nation's nutrition experts are set to reverse current cholesterol warnings, a swap that would "undo almost 40 years of government warnings about its consumption,"
The Washington Post reported.
The reversal, however, doesn't apply to warnings about high levels of so-called "bad cholesterol" or LDL in the bloodstream, a condition that medical professionals have linked to heart disease, the Post said.
The decision comes in a draft proposal from the federal Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which seeks to remove cholesterol from the list of nutrients of concern,
USA Today reported.
The final decision on approval of the draft, created in December, will come from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture, whose recommendations for dietary guidelines will be released later this year, USA Today said.
According to the Mayo Clinic's recommendations, total cholesterol levels should remain below 200 milligrams to stay in the "desirable" range, with LDL below 70 milligrams.
