Mets Fans: 'Cop Hater' Beyonce Doesn't Belong at Citi Field

New York Mets fans are crying foul over pop superstar Beyonce's plans for two shows at Citi Field this summer, after former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and others complained that her new song and Super Bowl performance attacked police officers.

Citi Field's Twitter feed began to light up shortly after the second show was announced, reports NBC Sports, with many fans vowing to boycott both the field and the singer's appearance:

Beyonce released her new song, "Formation" a day ahead of the Super Bowl, and the song's video and her subsequent halftime performance, which included imagery alluding to the Black Panthers, the Black Lives Matter movement, Malcolm X, and Hurricane Katrina angered many, including Giuliani, who said it glorified the Black Panthers and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Her performance featured several African American dancers wearing black berets and leather gear made to evoke Black Panther fighters, while Beyonce herself wore a costume featuring criss-crossed bullet straps.

Her performance also brought protesters to the NFL headquarters this week, with an event page announcing the rally showing a mugshot of Herman Bell, a former Black Liberation Army member convicted of murdering two police officers.

"Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group which should not be glorified? Come and let's stand together. Let's tell the NFL we don't want hate speech & racism at the Superbowl ever again!" the event page read.
