Obama Blames Washington for Economy

By    |   Friday, 12 August 2011 12:08 PM EDT

It seems a bit odd for a sitting president to blame the nation’s woes on the capital he is supposedly leading. But that’s exactly what President Barack Obama is doing, The Hill reports.

Dysfunction in Washington is what’s hurting the economy, he says. It appears that Obama wants to tap into the dissatisfaction with government policy that has alienated voters and pushed some to the tea party.

In two recent speeches the president put the blame on Congress, and he apparently didn’t even single out Republicans. “What we’ve seen in Washington the last few months has been the worst kind of partisanship, the worst kind of gridlock," he said. "And that gridlock has undermined public confidence and impeded our efforts to take the steps we need for our economy."
