Obamacare Website Woman Disappears from Glitch-plagued Site

By    |   Monday, 28 October 2013 06:10 AM EDT

That famous face you've seen over and over on Healthcare.gov is gone.

The smiling woman who greeted frustrated applicants on the website became a story herself as media outlets did feature stories about her identity. CNN's Jeanne Moos noted that many have taken pity on her, comparing her to Joey Tribbiani on "Friends," who posed for a photo that ended up being used as a warning against sexually transmitted diseases.

Unlike Joey, the woman has the advantage of technology to disassociate herself from trouble. Now, her face is gone from the site, replaced with four icons explaining the multiple ways people can apply for health insurance. Photoshopping may have been involved, since the out-of-focus tree leaves in the background remain.

Buzzfeed's attempt to find the woman took them all the way to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services spokesman Richard Olague, who told BuzzFeed in an email, "The woman featured on the website signed a release for us to use the photo, but to protect her privacy, we will not share her personal or contact info with anyone."
