The U.S. Coast Guard is extending a temporary change in the number of Palm Beach drawbridge closings in a bid to ease traffic when President Donald Trump visits his Mar-a-Lago resort.
That means bridges will be closed just once an hour from 2:15 to 5:30 p.m. when the commander in chief is in Palm Beach.
The temporary changes, which first went into effect last September but had expired, have kept the Flagler Memorial and Royal Park Bridges open to vehicles longer on weekdays.
Before, drawbridges connecting Palm Beach and West Palm Beach were closed to cars twice an hour to allow boats to pass under, The Palm Beach Daily News reports.
According to the newspaper, drivers are often forced to use the Flagler or Royal Park bridges instead of the Southern Boulevard Bridge, which is usually used by the president's motorcade.
