Pelosi: No Plans for Virus Test After Potential Exposure

(MSNBC/"Morning Joe")

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday that she does not need to be tested for coronavirus after standing near Rep. Nydia Velazquez last week, even though the New York Democrat revealed on Monday she's been diagnosed with "presumed coronavirus infection."

"In terms of my situation, I kept my distance," the California Democrat said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I said we all had to be six feet apart, and I kept my distance from all of the members."

The contact would have come last Friday while House members voted on the third coronavirus relief package. Velazquez stood behind Pelosi at the bill signing and after was seen talking with her and other members later.

“We were very, very spaced in the room,” Pelosi said Tuesday. "We took a bigger room so that we could have more space among us. And if you look at the picture, you'll see that the congresswoman is well in her own space in that picture.”

She added that she's spoken with a doctor about the experience and was told her situation is "low risk," and she doesn't have a reason to need a test.

Trump responded in a tweet after the interview, saying he had watched it "in order to see what Nancy Pelosi had to say, & what moves she was planning to further hurt our Country. Actually, other than her usual complaining that I’m a terrible person, she wasn’t bad. Still praying!"

Meanwhile, Pelosi said lawmakers shouldn't be spending time dwelling on Trump's actions but must be "guided by science" for their response moving forward on coronavirus.

"I don't understand why the scientists didn't have much more sway with the president early on," she said.
