Republicans trust police officers, clergy members, doctors, pharmacists, and military officers more than Democrats do, says
a new Gallup poll.
But Democrats are more trusting of judges and TV reporters, the poll found.
The nation's two top political parties differed by at least 10 percentage points in their honesty and ethics ratings for six of 22 professions, Gallup says.
Asked to rate the honesty and ethical standards of police officers, 68 percent of Republicans gave them a high or very high rating, compared with just 44 percent of Democrats. About 52 percent of independents trusted cops.
On the clergy, 63 percent of Republicans trust the men and women of the cloth, as compared to just 40 percent of Democrats. Independents weighed in at 42 percent.
About 78 percent of Republicans trust the military, while only 64 percent of Democrats do.
Of independents, 67 percent think military officers are honest and ethical.
Of pharmacists, the poll found 80 percent of Republicans trust them, compared to 69 percent of Democrats and 66 percent of independents.
About 78 percent of Republicans trust doctors, with only 69 percent of Democrats and 65 percent of independents doing so.
About 51 percent of Democrats trust judges, compared to just 41 percent of Republicans and 43 percent of independents.
Both parties are fairly even on their trust, or lack thereof, of one profession: car dealers.
Only 9 percent of Republicans trust car dealers, and only 8 percent of Democrats do.
Both have a high trust of nurses: Republicans, 81 percent; Democrats, 85 percent.
Independents weigh in at 79 percent.
