Voters agree a second wave of the coronavirus is likely to occur, according to a new poll.
The POLITICO/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday shows that nearly eight in 10 voters believe a second surge in cases will happen. Nearly three out of four voters think social distancing should be extended even if it continues to damage the economy.
Poll results indicate:
- 73% of voters think Americans should continue social distancing despite hurting the economy.
- 79% of voters say a second outbreak is very or somewhat likely.
- 19% of voters believe social distancing will end in the next two months.
"Even as elected officials consider reopening local economies, voters are bracing for a second wave of the virus," Tyler Sinclair, vice president for Morning Consult, told Politico. "Though open signs may return, consumers may be slow to.”
The poll surveyed 1,991 registered voters between April 24-26. There is a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
