Reports indicating Donald Trump's presidency is crumbling based on polls are not considering numbers during the election, NBC News pointed out Tuesday.
A new poll in Rust Belt states – Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylania – showed the president's approval rating dropping to the mid-30's. But those numbers are roughly the same as they were on Election Day, CNN noted.
Trump's approval rating on the latest Gallup daily tracking poll fell to a record low of 34 percent Aug. 14, the lowest point since his 35 percent approval rating March 28. But the numbers were similar during the campaign, NBC noted, with more than 60 percent of voters stating they did not think he was qualified to run and more than half of Republicans saying they were not satisfied with him as their nominee. And, on Election Day, 60 percent of voters said they did not like him.
"It's easy to forget that almost a quarter of Rust Belt voters who ended up pulling the lever for Trump were holding their noses while they did it," wrote CNN's Ryan Struyk.
Trump has had a rough month, with lawmakers criticizing him heavily for his comments on the violence in Charlottesville, and the major shakeup of his White House staff, including the ouster of chief strategist Steve Bannon.
