Sixty percent of Americans are rejecting protesters’ calls to reopen America while the coronavirus outbreak continues, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.
Just 22% say they support the protesters.
Protesters in states with stay-at-home orders have stormed state capitals to express anger to their governors in hopes of having the orders lifted.
Here are some highlights from the new survey:
- 71% say they are more concerned about lifting the restrictions too quickly than lifting them slowly. 29% say the opposite.
- 71% say they want public health officials “to be fully able to test and trace new cases and outbreaks” before reopening. 29% said the U.S. should reopen as soon as possible to limit the economic damage.
- 49% disapprove of the way President Donald Trump has handled the pandemic. 45% approve.
The poll, conducted April 17-19, surveyed 1,597 people. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
