Rand Paul's presidential campaign website has removed Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses from its merchandise store after a complaint from the sunglasses maker,
The Hill reports.
The sunglasses were imprinted with Paul's campaign logo and sold for $150. They were still on the site as recently as Tuesday, The Hill reported, and were described as "the intersection of politics and cool."
Ray-Ban said the campaign did not have permission to sell its product.
"Ray-Ban is not at all a political brand – we’re focused on making sunglasses that people love," Jane Lehman, a spokeswoman for the manufacturer’s parent company, Luxottica, said in a prepared statement.
"We learned that the Rand Paul campaign had been selling Ray-Ban sunglasses imprinted with the 'Rand' logo without our consent, Lehman told The Hill in an email. "After a formal request from us, they promptly removed the product from their site and agreed to cease any further use of our trademarks."
One photo on the website showed President John F. Kennedy wearing a pair of Ray-Bans on top of his head beside a picture of Paul also wearing the glasses, The Hill noted.
"I can hear Senator [Lloyd] Bentsen now, 'I knew Jack Kennedy and you're no Jack Kennedy,'" the photos were captioned. "Well, you and I may not be Jack Kennedy, but Rand likes Raybans and now we can all own Rand-branded Raybans."
"$150 is more than you might normally pay for sunglasses, but these are Raybans, and even more, they are indelibly marked with the Rand Brand ... and as always, it's a contribution to the Rand Paul for President campaign," the site read.
The Hill said Paul's campaign declined to comment.
The store still sells other items with the phrase "Stand with Rand," including clothing and coffee mugs.
