Ronan Farrow's MSNBC Show Could Sink Amid Poor Ratings

By    |   Monday, 31 March 2014 09:49 AM EDT

A little more than a month after its debut, Ronan Farrow's MSNBC talk show may be canceled due to poor ratings, the New York Daily News reported, citing sources it didn't identify.

"Ronan Farrow Daily" drew an average of about 312,000 total viewers on March 26, coming in 708th place among all programming ranked by Nielsen, both in terms of total viewers and in the 18-to-49 age group he was hired to attract.

The figures were described by a source as "rather measly for someone who is supposed to be a major national personality," according to the Daily News.

"He sort of stinks on TV," another MSNBC source told the Daily News. "He hasn't turned out to be the superstar they were hoping for. Just because someone is a boy genius-turned-Twitter star doesn't mean they deserve their own TV show."

Farrow, the 28-year-old son of actress Mia Farrow, graduated from college at age 15 and went on to get degrees from Yale Law School and Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He also worked for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Obama administration.

Farrow rose to prominence on Twitter with 245,000 followers.

Reports earlier this month also indicated that Farrow's ratings were low.  Concerns about the show's success began just one week after its Feb. 24 debut when the program drew just 34,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographic.

MSNBC defended the show.

"We're happy with the debut of 'Ronan Farrow Daily' and the show's progress this first month. MSNBC will continue to support Ronan and his team as they develop and grow the program," the network said in a statement, according to the Daily News.
