Rick Santorum to Head Christian Film Studio

By    |   Tuesday, 25 June 2013 11:23 AM EDT

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum eschewed the Hollywood elites during his time in Washington, but he's about to find out what it's like to head a film studio.

His office will be in Texas and not California, and his films will be far from Tinseltown blockbusters. But as head of Dallas-based EchoLight Studios, he'll be able to promote the kind of faith-and-family issues that dominated his run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Santorum is the new CEO of EchoLight Studios, which produces feature films for the family- and faith-based markets.

"Many of you have heard me talk about that if we are going to make a positive impact on our country's cultural challenges, we have to do it by reaching the masses often through entertainment," the former Pennsylvania senator said in a statement.

"For too long, Hollywood has had a lock on influencing the youth of this country with a flawed message that goes against our values. Now, we can change that."

Santorum, 55, announced his new job on the "Huckabee" program on Fox News, noting his desire to create quality movies that are inspirational. He said it was the right time and Dallas the right place for him to take on such work.

"I often say that culture is upstream from politics, and I know entertainment also can be strength and light for people who want to be uplifted and reinforced in their values," he told Mike Huckabee.

Santorum, however, may not yet shut down his political career for his new one. The father of eight, who served in the Senate from 1995 to 2007, says he plans to continue his political action committee, Patriot Voices, and he remains open to a future run for office, including the 2016 presidential contest.
