Police in Seattle will hand out free munchies to attendees at a pro-marijuana rally this weekend.
"Operation Orange Fingers" will see officers handing out bags of Doritos chips at Hempfest,
the Seattle Times reports.
The bags will be attached to flyers explaining Washington State’s new law allowing adults to possess up to one ounce of marijuana. The drug can also be sold in licensed shops.
Voters
legalized recreational marijuana in a statewide referendum last year.
"A lot of people still have questions about the nuances of the law," police spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb told the Times.
"And 2013 is a year very much in transition for people who enjoy pot."
Hempfest is a three-day pro-marijuana festival being held on the Seattle waterfront.
While marijuana is now legal in Washington, the consumption of it in public remains against the law.
Cops will issue warnings to those they see getting high at the festival. But the law is taking the entire event in a somewhat relaxed spirit.
After announcing its Doritos giveaway, Seattle police jokingly tweeted:
"Please ignore maliciously false reports that we’re giving out Bugles . . . We would never, ever do that."
