'SNL' Rips BuzzFeed 'Fake News' Report Hitting Trump

By    |   Sunday, 20 January 2019 09:37 AM EST

After having special counsel Robert Mueller's office issue a rare debunking of BuzzFeed News' report President Donald Trump directed former attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress, "Saturday Night Live" laughed at the irony.

"BuzzFeed published a story that said that Robert Mueller had evidence of Trump committing an impeachable crime, but the details were so sketchy that even Mueller's team had to be like, 'Sorry, fake news,'" "SNL" Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said. "How disappointing was that?

"You know how many suburban moms had to retract their group text to the family reading, 'We got him!'"

Co-host Michael Che advised BuzzFeed to stay in its lane: "memes and lists."

"Look, BuzzFeed, I think it's great – we all think it's great that you want to help, but this isn't really what we need from you," Che said. "Y'all at BuzzFeed, you do memes and lists.

"Everybody got that aunt who has roaches and every Thanksgiving she's like, 'what should I bring?' And we are like 'um, ice. You bring the ice, because we don't want to pick 'raisins' out of the turkey.'

"That's you, BuzzFeed. You bring the ice.

"You know, as Dr. [Martin Luther] King once said, 'don't go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes you are used to.' There's no shame in that. We all play a role. Look, sometimes kids come up to me and they'll say, 'I get all my news from you.' I say, 'don't do that. I bring the ice.'"

Jost then proceeded to going back to ripping conservatives, mocking former White House press secretary Sean Spicer for looking like some kind of poodle.
