'Saturday Night Live' Veteran Jan Hooks Dies at 57

Jan Hooks, a comedian and actress known for her stint on "Saturday Night Live" where she was known for appearing in sketches with Nora Dunn or Phil Hartman, died Thursday at the age of 57.

The actress had been battling a serious illness.

Hooks, born in Atlanta, was in the main cast of "SNL" from 1986 to '91 along with with alums Dennis Miller, Mike Myers, and Dana Carvey.

She got her start in the L.A. based comedy troupe The Groundlings.

Her credits also include an appearance on "30 Rock" in 2010, as well as multiple episodes of "Designing Women," "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "The Simpsons." Film credits include "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," "Coneheads" and appearing with "SNL" alum Martin Short in "Jiminy Glick in Lalawood."
