Coronavirus cases connected to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota in early August have spread to eight states, according to NBC News.

That included 17 rally attendees who tested positive for the virus, the North Dakota health department said.

The North Dakota health department tweeted:

"Those who attended the rally should closely monitor for symptoms & get tested at a free ND testing site."

CNN reported more than two dozen people linked to the event in three states have tested positive for coronavirus.

In all, people who tested positive for coronavirus turned up in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, and Washington.

Kris Ehresmann, who runs the Minnesota Department of Health's infectious disease division, said he thinks more cases linked to Sturgis will appear.

The event, which took place between Aug. 7 and Aug. 16, drew 460,000 vehicles, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
