Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said Sunday the increase in COVID-19 cases in the city is “exponential at this point.”

In an interview on ABC News “This Week,” Suarez was grilled about the coronavirus positive test rate that had reached 20% as of Friday.

“It’s clear the growth is exponential at this point,” he said. “We've been breaking record after record after record over the last couple weeks."

But according to Suarez, the city’s “stricter measures” have been instituted “in hopes all these rules will have a positive impact.”

Suarez cited the reopening of bars and restaurants as contributing to increase in COVID-19 cases.

"There's no doubt that when we reopened, people started socializing as if the virus didn't exist,” he said.

“What we saw was… before the stay at home order an increasing slope of 35 new cases a day,” he said. “Right after that order… we saw an immediate decline… We got ahead of the curve.”

But just before the Fourth of July weekend, after the 50% reoopen order, he said the city recorded an incline slope of  91 new per day.

“It’s extremely worrisome,” he said.
