Americans Overwhelmingly Favor Surveillance Cameras in Public Places

In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, 70 percent of Americans support the presence of surveillance cameras in public areas in order to reduce crime, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

The poll of 1,000 likely voters conducted on April 22-23, 2013 reported that just 18 percent of American adults opposed the use of the security cameras in public areas in order to protect individual rights.

An additional 11 percent remained undecided and unsure about whether they believed if the use of surveillance cameras made public spaces safer.
