Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Tuesday took aim at the Capitol rioters who went through his desk after storming the building earlier this month, describing the incident as “despicable” to the Washington Examiner.

When asked about a video from a New Yorker reporter showing two people going through papers in the senator’s desk, Cruz told the Examiner: “I think it was a terrorist attack on the Capitol, and it was despicable, and anyone who committed acts of violence should be fully prosecuted and should go jail for a long time.”

In the video, two young men can be heard talking about Cruz’s prepared remarks for objecting to Arizona’s certification of the state’s electoral votes.

“He was gonna sell us out all along — look! ‘Objection to counting the electoral votes of the state of Arizona,’” says one, before adding, “Oh, wait, that’s actually OK.”

The second man says, “He’s with us.”

The first person then goes through a three-ring binder on Cruz’s desk and says, “There’s gotta be something in here we can f------ use against these scumbags.”

A third person watching says, “Cruz would want us to do this, so I think we’re good.”
