The Australian arm of Paramount Pictures apologized for posting an offensive movie poster for the upcoming release of its "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,"
reports Buzzfeed.
"We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia. Combining that image and date was a mistake. We intended no offense and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use," said the statement.
The controversy began Wednesday morning when the Australian unit of Paramount Pictures released on its Twitter account and its Facebook page a movie poster showing the features four lead characters — Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo — falling from an exploding building. The release date overseas is September 11.
The page promoting the movie on the
Paramount Pictures Australia website makes no mention of either the offense poster, or the apology.
