Donald Trump's wall along the U.S.-Mexico border could end up being just 200 miles of additional construction, the New York Daily News reports.

Trump transition team adviser Brandon Judd, who is the Border Patrol Agents' Union head, told NPR's "Morning Edition," there is no need to cover the entire border, according to the newspaper.

"The wall is going to be absolutely effective in certain locations," Judd said, according to the the Daily News. "We do not need a wall along the entire 2,000 miles of border."

He noted about 10-15 percent of the border already has steel fencing along it. Other areas along the border are surrounded by rough terrain making it difficult to cross and a wall unnecessary.

Judd said a wall is needed for an additional 15 percent of the border — covering about 200-300 more miles.

"What I really appreciate about President-elect Trump is he understands that he doesn't know everything," he said.

"And every single time I've sat down and spoke with him, we've talked about a wall, we've about whether it needs to be the full 2,000 miles of the southwest border or if we just need it in strategic locations, and he's been willing to listen and that's very refreshing."
