President-elect Donald Trump must sell his stake in the historic Washington, D.C., hotel he opened before he's sworn in or risk being in breach of the lease, CNN reported.
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have been pressing the General Service Administration on its intentions regarding the impending conflict of interest — Trump as both landlord and tenant of the Trump International Hotel.
Trump inherits oversight of the GSA once he's sworn in as president Jan. 20.
"No member or delegate to Congress or elected official of the Government of the United States ... shall be admitted to any share of part of this Lease," according to the language in the lease, CNN reported.
Trump also will oversee the National Labor Relations Board, which would preside over union disputes at the D.C. and other hotels Trump owns.
According to CNN, Trump signed the lease two years before he launched his campaign for president, and Ivanka Trump was the main point of contact for the GSA during negotiations.
"Ms. Trump is all of the following — the president-elect's daughter, a top presidential transition team official, a lessee under the contract the GSA oversees, and the primary contact for GSA on the lease. The conflicts of interest are obvious," Democrats wrote, per CNN.
Team Trump has said all will be clarified when Donald Trump holds a press conference sometime in January.
