President Donald Trump plans to travel to Florida on Wednesday to view the launch of SpaceX’s manned test mission to the International Space Station, according to a U.S. official.
The launch will mark the first time NASA astronauts have blasted off from U.S. soil since the end of the space shuttle program in 2011.
According to Politico, Trump said in a statement: "Our destiny, beyond the Earth, is not only a matter of national identity, but a matter of national security."
Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., said he plans to travel on Air Force One with Trump to see the historic launch.
"With everything going on, the relaunch of America, the relaunch of our economy, the relaunch of Florida, the symbolism I think is really exciting," he said.
